Who can purchase cannabis?
You must be 21 to legally use, possess, and buy cannabis.
How much can I purchase and possess?
Illinois residents can purchase and possess up to 30 grams (about an ounce) of cannabis flower, 5 grams of concentrate, and 500mg THC edibles and infused products.
Where can I consume?
You can consume in a private home where the public can’t see you. Smoking, vaping, or consuming cannabis is illegal in motor vehicles and public places.
Can I drive with cannabis?
Yes, as long as you don’t cross state lines and keep it in a sealed container and out of reach of the driver. It is neither legal nor safe to use cannabis while operating any motorized vehicle.
Can I travel?
By federal law, it is illegal to travel across state borders with any amount of cannabis.
What are the taxes?
Taxes vary depending on the THC content in the products you purchase. On top of your local, state and business taxes, Illinois has the following purchaser taxes:
10% Tax on adult use cannabis products with 35% THC or less
25% Tax on adult use cannabis products with more than 35% THC
20% Tax on cannabis-infused products
